Often they then don’t even try to influence the outcome and see any failure as GAME OVER. With no opportunity to restart, learn lessons or try another opportunity or approach. Therefore, they tend to avoid failure. Maybe you too have someone in your circle who, for example, tried to go to college and quit after two semesters. Then they decided that they weren’t cut out for studying and went in a completely different direction, despite the fact that they were eager to pursue a career in a field where school would open doors for them.

A very common example is when someone tries to lose weight, gain muscle or improve their physique, but after a few weeks they quit with the clear conclusion that it is not worth it. And then there is the guy who didn’t succeed the first time, but the experience didn’t break him. He decided to try again, successfully completed his studies and is proud of his degree. Just like the other guy who believed he would lose weight, worked hard for his goal and now boasts of his results, which he proudly shows off in his swimsuit. Can you see the difference? 7. Be resilient and don’t be afraid to face your fears

  • What’s in it for you to avoid this happening?

For each of the following questions, write down a few answers that can both explain your concerns and provide a solution to the whole situation. A person with a healthy mindset doesn’t shy away from their goals and instead of making excuses, they look for ways to achieve them. And if things don’t work out despite your best efforts, try to remain resilient.

Rather than hanging your head, look at the fact that despite your shyness, you finally managed to muster up the courage, something not everyone can do.   • stop for pedestrians at a crossing
  • ask a loved one how their day was
  • take your shopping upstairs for your neighbour
  • help a mother with a pram up the stairs

  • help your classmates solve a challenging problem

Volunteering to help your community is also encouraged. Alternatively, search for volunteer organisations near you and get involved in the opportunities on offer.
