pumpkin seeds

Pumpkin seeds are a popular side dish to many main courses thanks to their buttery nut flavour, and make for a perfect addition to soups as well as desserts. However, they also make for a delicious and healthy snack all on their own. What’s more, they’re very nutritious, and offer a variety of health benefits. They also boast a significant content of vitamins, healthy fats and dietary fibre.

Gourmets are also bound to appreciate having a bottle of pumpkin seed oil in their kitchen, bringing perfection to their salads as well as smooth, creamy soups.

How to eat pumpkin seeds?

Pumpkin seeds, also known as pepitas, have a place in many people’s memories of their grandma’s gardens. Traditionally, they’d be served raw. Simply dig them out of the pumpkin and dry them. However, if you enjoy more conspicuous flavours, you may want to try them out roasted or baked. They can be roasted at home using a pan, but it’s more convenient to simply get them already roasted from a store. It’s all up to you whether you’d try them unflavoured, salted, peeled or unpeeled.

Where to best use pumpkin seeds?

Pumpkin seeds make for a great ingredient for both sweet and savoury recipes. They will be the perfect addition to your favourite vegetable salads, risottos, creamy soups or pasta sauces. Pumpkin seed pesto is particularly delightful in combination with pasta, especially when flavoured with herbs and other ingredients to your own taste.

They are equally enjoyable in a sweet dish, for example when sprinkled over a cereal porridge, a yoghurt bowl served with fruit and rolled oats, or a fruit salad, and even a platter of crepes.

What can you bake with pumpkin seeds?

The beautiful flavour of pumpkin seeds can be further highlighted when used in baking. They stand out wonderfully in homemade granola, muesli bars, cookies, cakes, pies or banana bread. You can use them to top your homemade bread, or bake delicious and crunchy seed crackers.
