pumpkin

Pumpkin is a plant food with hard skin and soft flesh. When you hear its name, you may think of the Halloween pumpkins with a scary face and a candle inside that decorate the windows, houses and yards in autumn. However, it would be a shame to use pumpkin only as a decoration. In fact, it can be used to prepare many delicious desserts, salads, soups and main courses. It’s then up to you which type of pumpkin you choose.

Some people prefer the Hokkaido pumpkin, which is used in countless delicious meals. Its great advantage is that there’s no need to peel it as the skin becomes soft during cooking or baking. Others prefer butternut squash. Although it has to be peeled, it will still surprise you with its delicious taste. Furthermore, you can try spaghetti squash. As the name suggests, the flesh can be used to make noodles that can be used in soup, for example.

If you like roasted potatoes with vegetables, then you definitely need to add some chopped pumpkin. If you then add feta or goat cheese to it, you get a flavourful combo. Or you can blend pumpkin and prepare some soup, sauce or risotto. Furthermore, pumpkin is perfect for various sweet desserts. To conjure up a dessert, prepare pumpkin puree (cook and blend pumpkin) at home. Then add it to the batter or dough for buns, muffins, waffles, pancakes, creams or porridge. It is low in calories, ensuring that you prepare a delicious meal with a balanced nutritional profile.
