Fitness Recipe: Fish and Chips

The most traditional British food in the form of fish and chips doesn’t have to be just a fatty fast food dish. We made some tweaks and prepared the main components in the oven. This way, the amount of fat in this meal is greatly reduced while the overall feel of the dish remains the same, maybe even better, as the natural taste of the ingredients really gets to stand out. Try this recipe with our homemade yogurt dip. You definitely won’t regret it.

Ingredients for the fish:

  • 200 g of cod fillet (you can use other fish)
  • 30 g spelt flour
  • 20 g cornflakes (slightly crushed)
  • 1 whole egg
  • salt

Ingredients for the dip:

  • 100 g 0% fat Greek yoghurt
  • 20 g gherkins
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • fresh lemon juice to taste
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Method:

Let’s start by preparing the chips. Peel the potatoes and cut them into chips, then rinse with cold water and dry with a paper towel.

Fish and Chips - the Chips

Spread the chips evenly on a baking tray lined with baking paper, spray with some oil cooking spray and sprinkle with roasted potatoes seasoning mix.

Wash the fish, dry it and cut it into smaller pieces. Then add some salt and coat it – start by coating both sides in flour, then in egg and finally in crushed cornflakes.

Fish and Chips - the Fish

First, bake the chips in the oven for 10 minutes at 200 °C. Then take them out, add the fish to the same baking sheet and bake together for 15–20 minutes, still at 200 °C. Once this time has passed, both the chips and the fish should be done. If not, let them cook for a little longer.

In the meantime, while the fish and chips are still cooking, you can prepare the dip. Finely chop the garlic and gherkins and mix them with yoghurt. Add lemon juice, black pepper and salt to taste. Mix everything thoroughly once again.

Well, and that’s it. Just get ready to savour every bite!
