Liquid sunflower lecithin is a dietary supplement containing lecithin obtained exclusively from sunflowers (Helianthus annuus). One of the most important is phosphatidylcholine, a source of choline. Phosphatidylcholine is an integral part of cell membranes, where it contributes to their fluidity and strength. It also forms a natural hydrophobic layer on the surface of gastric mucus. This layer protects the stomach lining from the irritating effects of the stomach’s own hydrochloric acid (HCl), as well as the effects of alcohol or painkillers.
In the intestine, it acts as a natural emulsifier. It breaks down dietary fats into tiny micelles, significantly increasing the surface area available for the digestive enzyme pancreatic lipase to act on. The result is better digestion of heavier meals and less fullness or bloating after a heavy meal.
