Protein Vegan Blend – plant-based protein from peas, rice and hemp with a complete spectrum of essential amino acids

Protein Vegan Blend combines three sources of plant-based protein. Its base is yellow pea protein isolate (50 %), complemented by rice protein concentrate (40 %) and hemp seed protein powder (10 %).

One 30g scoop provides up to 23 g of protein. Protein accounts for 75 to 78 % of the energy value, depending on the flavour, which is roughly four times the threshold for a high-protein food. This means it contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass. The unflavoured version contains no sweeteners or flavourings, just the blend of three proteins.

Protein Vegan Blend – plant-based protein from peas, rice and hemp with a complete spectrum of essential amino acids
Plant-based protein with a complete amino acid profile

Plant-based proteins have one weakness compared with whey protein. Almost all of them lack one of the essential amino acids, which are those that the body cannot produce on its own and must obtain from food. However, the body's ability to use protein is limited by the amount of the least abundant amino acid (known as the limiting amino acid). If one is missing, the others remain unused. This is precisely why single-source pea or rice protein cannot match whey protein.

Protein Vegan Blend solves this through combination, not compromise. Pea and rice each lack a different amino acid:

  • Pea lacks methionine but has an abundance of lysine.
  • Rice lacks lysine but readily supplies methionine.

In a blend of 50 % pea and 40 % rice, each supplies exactly what the other lacks.

Laboratory analysis confirms the result. All nine essential amino acids exceed FAO recommendations for adults, with none falling below them. Each serving provides 8,8 g, including 4,35 g BCAA. You therefore get a complete set of building blocks, just as you would with whey protein, but from plants.

Source of fibre

Plant-based proteins also bring something you will not find in dairy proteins. Protein Vegan Blend contains 5 to 7 g of fibre per 100 g, depending on the flavour. It also contains no more than 1 g of sugar per 100 g. One scoop contains no more than 118 kcal (depending on the flavour) and contains no milk, lactose or gluten.

How the blend is made and what it is tested for

Each of the three proteins is produced using a different process, but they share one thing in common. None of them are made using organic solvents. The protein is separated using water, enzymes or purely mechanical methods.

  • Pea isolate from yellow peas (Pisum sativum) is produced through wet fractionation, which means separating the protein in an aqueous environment.
  • Rice concentrate (Oryza sativa) undergoes enzymatic starch hydrolysis. Enzymes break down the starch, which is then separated from the protein fraction.
  • Hemp protein powder (Cannabis sativa) from hemp seeds (from the EU) is produced using purely mechanical methods. The defatted press cake is ground and sieved.

The blend is tested by two independent German laboratories accredited to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 and registered with DAkkS. Each flavour is tested separately, rather than just one representative batch. Testing covers arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury using ICP-MS, as well as microbiological purity.

Arsenic is the most important parameter for rice protein. Rice absorbs significantly more of it from the soil than other crops, so for the concentrate, which makes up 40 % of the blend, measuring it is not just a formality.

Checks are carried out in two stages. The rice used to produce the concentrate must meet the legal limit, otherwise it cannot be used as a food ingredient. We also have the finished blend tested for arsenic, with each flavour tested separately. The measured levels remain below 0,05 mg/kg, which is lower than the level permitted by regulations for rice intended for baby food, for example.

The full reports are openly available in the Laboratory Tests section on the product page.

Minimalist formula

The unflavoured version contains just three ingredients: the proteins themselves and nothing else. The flavoured versions add no more than three ingredients, depending on the flavour:

  • Natural flavouring adds flavour
  • Sweetener adds sweetness without sugar or extra calories
  • Reduced-fat cocoa powder in the chocolate flavour
  • Beetroot powder in the strawberry flavour adds colour

This means it contains no thickeners, fillers or artificial colours. This sets it apart from other plant-based proteins, which commonly contain xanthan gum or another thickener to mask their texture.

Who is Protein Vegan Blend suitable for?

Vegan Blend – a multicomponent plant-based protein powder that will provide optimal protein intake for both health and muscle growth

Vegan Blend is a well-designed blend of pea protein isolate, rice protein concentrate and hemp protein powder. It is therefore a 100% plant-based protein powder, which boasts a favourable amino acid spectrum. This is because it contains all essential amino acids (EAAs), including BCAAs. This makes the Vegan Blend Protein an effective choice to achieve optimal protein intake that will help with the maintenance and growth of muscle mass. In addition, it will also support the maintenance of healthy bones.

This vegan protein powder is therefore ideal for athletes, who usually have greater protein intake requirements. That said, it is also suitable for people during weight loss diet, while the product itself is additionally GLP-1 friendly.

Vegan Blend is also low in sugar, which is sure to come in handy if you are trying to limit its amount in your diet. Moreover, it does not contain lactose, gluten, soy, or GMOs. It is therefore great for vegetarians, vegans, and people who avoid these substances. This protein powder can be a great choice to spice up your diet or when you are trying to limit animal foods in your diet.

Vegan Blend comes in the form of a well-soluble powder that you just need to mix together with water, milk, or your favourite drink. It also tastes great in cereal porridge, which it will enrich with plant-based proteins. However, feel free to also add it to your desserts or smoothies. The unflavoured version is then a perfect choice for preparing savoury dishes, such as protein pizza.

It doesn't really matter how you use the protein, as it will help you achieve an optimal daily protein intake. It is, however, best to use this protein powder after exercise. That said, it is no less great before exercise in case you have been fasting for some time before doing sports. Last but not least, you can use the Vegan Blend Protein at any time of the day as a quick snack in the form of a protein shake or as part of your favourite dishes.

Customer Experiences:

Reviews for a vegan protein blend are largely positive, with most customers praising mixability, steady texture, and overall perceived quality. Many mention it’s easy on digestion, helps with recovery, and works well for lactose intolerance. Taste is described as natural and acceptable, especially in smoothies, oats, or recipes, though some prefer using plant milk. A smaller share reports a gritty or dusty mouthfeel and weaker flavor, particularly in water.

This whey tastes like cardboard and has a floury mouthfeel. I have ordered and tried the banana, strawberry, and unflavoured varieties. I cannot understand why they are described as having flavours, as they all taste exactly the same. The only difference is that the unflavoured version tastes slightly salty.

I do not wish to compare the quality and taste of vegan proteins, as I lack experience with them, having used only whey protein until now. I read reviews before purchasing and hoped I would get used to the taste and texture; if nothing else, I planned to mix it into a shake or porridge. However, the shock upon the first taste was so intense that I cannot bring myself to try it again in any other way. Literally, it caused nausea and a strong urge to vomit. Although some describe it as easy to digest, it created such heaviness for me and left such a lingering aftertaste that I had no desire to eat anything else for the rest of the day. The taste and texture are extremely heavy, resembling mud, with a sandy feel between the teeth, making it difficult to swallow.

The protein has a taste of something that did not fully dissolve; it is difficult for me to describe it in words. It has a bad taste and causes an excessive amount of gas. This product is completely unsuitable for consumption! ✗ Disadvantages: Gas and bad taste, extremely unpleasant to drink. The only positive aspect is the strawberry aroma.

I purchased this powder, but it would have been better not to buy it. It is the most terrible powder I have ever tried; unfortunately, I had to throw it away. It tastes like sand. It is a pity that it is so bad in taste and texture. It would have been a good alternative to soy and whey. ✓ Pros: A good alternative to soy and whey protein if you can eat sand. ✗ Cons: The worst-tasting powder. I had to throw it away.

Very poor in mixing, leaving a grainy texture regardless of how you use it, whether with water, yogurt, or even when cooked, the result is the same. Additionally, the chocolate flavor resembles more of a coffee taste.

I understand that if someone cannot tolerate whey or casein, their options are limited to avoid digestive issues; however, this was truly unpalatable. It tasted like plaster mixed with water, or sand with water. It left a lingering aftertaste in the mouth. I will never purchase this again.
