Palatinose is a slow-absorbing carbohydrate that can be used as a sugar alternative or a source of slow-absorbing energy before or during a workout

Palatinose, also known as isomaltulose, is a slow-absorbing carbohydrate with a sweet flavour. It is used as a preferable alternative to sugar or as a source of gradual-release energy for athletes. With a crystalline structure and white colour, it closely resembles white sugar. Similar to sugar (sucrose), it is disaccharide composed of glucose and fructose. However, unlike sucrose, it is absorbed into the blood more slowly, releasing and providing energy to the body gradually. This is confirmed by its low glycemic index, which is attributed to the different chemical bonds between the monosaccharides glucose and fructose.

Palatinose will be appreciated by athletes and active people, who engage primarily in endurance activities. It is suitable for running, cycling or swimming. To use it as a quality source of energy before training, mix it with water and drink about 30 minutes before the activity. However, you can also use it to replenish energy during a long endurance exercise like a several-hour run or bike ride. The advantage of palatinose is that, due to its slow absorption, it helps to replenish sugar and energy for the muscles gradually throughout the activity.

You can use this carbohydrate to replace classic white sugar and use it to sweeten foods. It is also suitable for weight loss. In fact, consuming foods containing palatinose instead of other sugars leads to a reduction in the rise in blood glucose (sugar) levels after eating them compared to foods with sugar (sucrose). Interestingly, it also contributes equally to preserving the mineralization of teeth.

The gradual release of energy is also useful when one struggles with feelings of lack of energy or a sweet tooth. If you want to use palatinose as an alternative to sugar, you can add it to your favourite sweet desserts, cakes or crepes and other sweet recipes. It's also good for flavouring tea, coffee and other beverages.

Palatinose is a versatile addition to both the kitchen and an athlete's diet, aiding in the achievement of sports and healthy lifestyle goals more easily.
