HMB 1000 – 3 g of HMB, for which you would otherwise need to consume 600 g of protein

HMB 1000 is a metabolite of the amino acid leucine and a substance that the body produces naturally.³ Leucine is also one of the branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). Only a small proportion of ingested leucine, approximately 5%, is converted into HMB (calcium hydroxymethylbutyrate).⁴ To produce 3 g of HMB, the body would therefore need around 60 g of leucine, which means more than 600 g of high-quality protein (approximately 2.5 kg of chicken breast).⁴ With HMB 1000, you get this dose in just 3 tablets.

We have used the calcium salt of HMB, the form used in the vast majority of published studies.² The product is regularly tested for heavy metals and microbiological purity. It contains no gluten, lactose, GMOs or artificial sweeteners and is also suitable for vegans.

When does HMB 1000 make sense?

HMB is not a product for year-round supplementation. It is a tool for specific periods when the body breaks down muscle mass faster than it builds it. And this is precisely the issue that most research focuses on.³ In trained athletes, studies also monitor muscle strength and body composition.^{1, 2}

• You are losing weight while also doing strength training: In a calorie deficit, the body also draws on muscle mass, so you may lose on the scales what you have worked hard to build. HMB has been studied most extensively in this particular context.²
• You are in the most demanding part of your training block: Training volume has increased and recovery cannot keep up. Include a daily dose of HMB as a safeguard until the workload returns to normal.
• You are returning after an illness, injury or a longer break: This is one of the most frequently studied areas of HMB use.⁴
• You are taking GLP-1 medications (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro): During rapid weight loss and low food intake, maintaining muscle mass is a key concern. The tablets contain no sugar or calories and do not take up space in your diet.
• You are aged 50 or over: As you age, the body responds less effectively to the same amount of dietary protein, and HMB is among the substances most frequently studied in this context.⁴
• You run or cycle long distances: During endurance exercise, HMB is studied in relation to signs of muscle damage after prolonged performance⁶ and aerobic capacity.⁵

How should you take HMB?

The daily dose is 3 tablets, divided into 3 servings with meals to maintain more stable HMB levels in the blood.² This is because HMB is not reabsorbed in the kidneys, and some of it is excreted in urine.

• On training days, take one of the doses approximately 60 to 120 minutes before exercise.²
• Before a demanding sporting period or competition, start taking HMB regularly approximately two weeks in advance.²
• On non-training days, take HMB at any time during the day.
