Does taking a magnesium supplement make sense?

Magnesium is the eleventh most abundant element in the human body, where it participates in more than 300 enzymatic reactions. This highlights its overall importance for proper functioning at almost every level. Experts have calculated that the average adult body contains around 25 grams of magnesium. 60 % of this amount is bound in bone minerals. 25 % is found in muscles, where it performs its roles primarily in their mitochondria. Only around 0,3 % of the magnesium in our body is found in blood serum. Our kidneys therefore play a key role in maintaining the body's magnesium balance.1

The main dietary sources of magnesium are green leafy vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds and whole grains.2 If these foods are not a regular part of your diet in sufficient amounts, meeting your magnesium needs can be more challenging. According to an analysis of data from the US NHANES study (2013–2016), up to 48 % of Americans across all age groups get less magnesium from their diet than they need.3

However, with magnesium, it is not just total intake that matters, but also how well it is actually absorbed. This is influenced by a range of factors, such as age, digestive tract health, taking it alongside other substances, the size of a single magnesium dose, and its specific chemical form in a food supplement.4,5,6

This is exactly why a carefully developed complex of three forms of magnesium in one product makes perfect sense. It combines the benefit of highly absorbable organic forms of magnesium, namely bisglycinate and lactate, with the naturally high proportion of elemental magnesium in magnesium oxide.6
As a result, to obtain 100 % of your daily magnesium dose, you need only 2 capsules.

For those who are unsure whether they get enough magnesium from their usual diet, taking a food supplement offers a simple and effective solution. Triple Magnesium GymBeam is made for just that. Two capsules a day provide your body with a sufficient dose of highly absorbable magnesium.

Triple Magnesium GymBeam: 4 features we focused on during development that set it apart from the competition
  1. Three forms of magnesium combined in one capsule with a clear purpose

Magnesium bisglycinate is a form of magnesium in which the mineral is bound to 2 glycine amino acids. The resulting highly absorbable complex looks as though the magnesium atom is held in the claws of the glycine amino acids. This is where the commonly used term chelated form comes from (from the Greek chēlé, meaning claw).

Magnesium lactate is a highly soluble organic form of magnesium with a similar absorption rate to bisglycinate. Magnesium oxide, meanwhile, stands out for its high elemental magnesium content.

By combining all three forms, we have created a product that cleverly brings together the high absorption of organic forms and a high total dose of magnesium. This would be virtually impossible to achieve with bisglycinate or lactate alone in a standard-sized capsule.

  2. A high yet safe dose split into two smaller portions

The daily dose (2 capsules) contains 375 mg of elemental magnesium, equivalent to 100 % of the nutrient reference value (NRV) for adults. To get the most out of the product and absorb as much magnesium as possible, it is important to take the two capsules separately rather than together, for example with two main meals of the day. Studies clearly show that the higher the single dose of magnesium you take, the lower the percentage absorbed.6 We include this valuable advice among the product's benefits because we took this into account during development too.

  3. A gentle capsule suitable for sensitive digestion and vegans

Our capsule is made from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. This is produced by modifying cellulose, the same substance that forms plant cell walls. The product contains no sugar, artificial sweeteners, gluten, soy or lactose, making it gentle on your digestive system.

  4. Quality and safety under third-party supervision

It is one thing to make a claim on a label, and another to actually ensure that the product contains the stated amount of the active ingredient. The product is therefore tested by an independent laboratory for its total elemental magnesium content. Strict safety checks are also part of our standard practice. That is why we test for heavy metals and carry out a panel of microbiological tests. You can view our results for Triple Magnesium GymBeam openly in the "Laboratory Tests" section.

Triple Magnesium GymBeam: 4 features we focused on during development that set it apart from the competition
Why does the body need magnesium?

Magnesium is among the minerals with the widest range of health claims officially approved by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), covering various aspects of how our body functions.7

  1. Energy metabolism
Magnesium contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism. This includes, for example, the processes responsible for releasing and using energy in our body.
  2. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
This does not mean that magnesium acts as a stimulant. Rather, the claim means that sufficient magnesium is essential for normal energy metabolism. When magnesium is lacking, tiredness and fatigue are often among the symptoms. Supplementing magnesium therefore helps address this negative effect of a deficiency. It does not boost energy beyond normal levels in someone who already has enough magnesium.
  3. Muscle function
Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function, including proper muscle contraction and relaxation.
  4. Protein synthesis
Magnesium contributes to normal protein synthesis, an ongoing process essential for tissue repair and growth.
  5. Nervous system
Magnesium contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system, which controls the activity of all organs in the body. It also contributes to normal psychological function.
  6. Healthy bones and teeth
Magnesium contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth. This is valuable for growing children, people recovering from illness or injury, athletes and older adults.
  7. Cell division
Magnesium also plays a role in the process of cell division, which is necessary to maintain the functioning of cells, tissues and organs. This process continues throughout life and is essential for maintaining health.
Why does the body need magnesium?

Who is Triple Magnesium GymBeam suitable for?

Athletes and physically active people, because magnesium contributes to normal muscle function and energy-yielding metabolism, both of which are key to performance and recovery.

People under stress or going through a mentally demanding period, because magnesium contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system and normal psychological function.

People with an insufficient dietary intake of magnesium. If you do not regularly eat nuts, seeds, legumes, wholegrain foods and leafy vegetables, there may be a risk that your diet does not provide enough magnesium.

People who want to support bone health, such as older adults or women going through menopause, because magnesium contributes to the maintenance of normal bones.

People on a weight-loss diet or taking GLP-1 medications. A weight-loss diet carries a risk of reduced vitamin and mineral intake, including magnesium.

Composition and dosage

Composition

Magnesium lactate dihydrate, magnesium oxide, magnesium bisglycinate, filler (microcrystalline cellulose), anti-caking agent (magnesium stearate), hypromellose capsule.

Dosage

Take 2 capsules daily. Split the total daily dose into two doses of one capsule each. This improves digestive tolerance and makes the supplement more comfortable to take, as a large single dose could have a laxative effect in more sensitive individuals. It also improves magnesium absorption.

There are several ways to incorporate Triple Magnesium GymBeam into your daily supplement routine.

  • In the morning with breakfast. It fits naturally into your daily routine, so you can tick it off your list first thing in the morning.
  • With another main meal of the day, lunch or dinner. It is up to you to decide when taking the second capsule fits into your day.
  • Suitable for long-term use. People often feel that supplements should not be taken long term and that regular breaks are necessary. This is certainly not the case with magnesium if your usual diet does not provide enough of it.
  • If you have kidney disease or take medication that affects kidney function, consult your doctor before taking this product. The kidneys help maintain the correct magnesium levels in the body.
  • If you have any further concerns about the appropriate dosage due to your health condition, pregnancy, breastfeeding or other medication you are taking, we recommend consulting a doctor or dietitian before using this food supplement. This product is not intended for children.

Warning

Dietary supplement. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. The product is not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. The product is not intended for children. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before use. Keep out of reach of small children. Store in a dry place away from direct sunlight at room temperature.
