Why is it important to take vitamin D3?

The body can naturally produce vitamin D on its own, so at first glance it may seem that you do not need a vitamin D dietary supplement at all. UV radiation from the sun naturally activates the vitamin D precursor (7-dehydrocholesterol) found in the skin. This starts the entire process of vitamin D production, which is then completed in the liver and kidneys, creating calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D capable of acting in the body.¹

However, there is one important catch. For much of the year outside summer, sunlight in Europe may not be sufficient for vitamin D synthesis. Up to 40 % of the European population has insufficient blood vitamin D levels.² This is not a marketing claim, but a fact confirmed by many scientific studies.

Vitamin D is also found in food, so production through UV radiation from the sun is not its only possible source

So, if you do not have fatty sea fish on your plate several times a week, do not eat several eggs daily, or do not deliberately choose foods fortified with vitamin D, you may have a real issue with your vitamin D intake.

For those who are unable to achieve sufficient vitamin D synthesis through sun exposure or their regular diet, taking a vitamin D dietary supplement is an option. Vitamin D3 2000 IU by GymBeam solves this problem simply – one capsule a day provides the body with vitamin D in a highly bioavailable form, in a daily dose of 1000 % of the nutrient reference value for an adult.

Vitamin D3 by GymBeam: 3 features we focused on during development

1. An effective form of vitamin D3

Vitamin D occurs in regular foods and dietary supplements in two forms: the animal-derived form, cholecalciferol, and the plant-derived form, ergocalciferol. Studies conclude that cholecalciferol is converted into the active form of vitamin D in our body more efficiently than ergocalciferol.⁴ This is precisely why we chose this form for our product.

2. A sufficiently potent yet safe dose of vitamin D3

One daily serving of Vitamin D3 by GymBeam contains 50 µg (2 000 IU) of vitamin D3, which is 1 000 % of the nutrient reference value (NRV). The figure may seem high at first glance, but the NRV is an EU legislative value set at 5 µg (200 IU). However, expert recommendations today are significantly higher.

Why do we go higher than 600–800 IU? Official recommendations target blood 25(OH)D levels of around 50 nmol/l, which is the minimum for maintaining normal bone health. Part of the expert debate today leans towards values above 75 nmol/l.9 A dose of 50 µg will help you reach this level more easily.

And isn't 1 000 % of the NRV too much? No. According to EFSA, the safe long-term daily intake for an adult is up to 100 µg (4 000 IU)8. Our dose is half of that.

Tip: There is no ideal dose for everyone. If you want to tailor it precisely, have your blood vitamin D 25(OH)D level tested. The dose of 50 µg (2 000 IU) is set to suit most people with regular use.

3. Ideal absorption thanks to an oil base

Vitamin D belongs to the so-called lipophilic vitamins, meaning that it is fat-soluble and, for optimal absorption, it is more than advisable to combine its intake with dietary fat.10 That is why we placed vitamin D in a softgel capsule containing a small amount of safflower oil, which helps support its absorption.

Vitamin D3 by GymBeam: 3 features we focused on during development
Why does the body need vitamin D3?

Although vitamin D is currently being studied in relation to a wide range of health areas with positive results, we do not want to make miraculous claims about vitamin D that are not reliably backed by science. That is why we only list officially approved health claims.11

1. Immune system

Vitamin D supports the normal function of the immune system. This makes it one of the most closely watched micronutrients, especially during the colder months of the year, when the body is exposed to a higher bacterial or viral burden.

2. Absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus

Vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus. These are essential components of the structure of bones and teeth. Without enough vitamin D, the body cannot effectively absorb or utilise calcium and phosphorus from food, no matter how high their intake is.

3. Healthy bones and teeth

Vitamin D contributes to healthy bones and teeth. This is appreciated by growing children, people recovering from illness, athletes and older adults.

4. Cell division

Vitamin D also plays a role in the process of cell division, which is essential for maintaining the function of cells, tissues and organs. This process takes place throughout life and is crucial for maintaining health.

5. Muscle function

Vitamin D contributes to maintaining normal muscle function. This is important for all athletes and active seniors alike.

Why does the body need vitamin D3?

Who is Vitamin D3 2000 IU suitable for

1. Athletes and active people
Because vitamin D contributes to normal muscle function and calcium metabolism, two areas that are crucial for performance and recovery.

2. Older adults (60+)
As we age, the skin's ability to produce vitamin D from sunlight decreases, while the importance of healthy, strong bones increases. Focusing on sufficient vitamin D3 levels and adequate intake is one of the most common nutritional recommendations for this group.

3. People with limited sun exposure
Office work, city living, shift work. Just because it is summer and the sun shines all day does not automatically mean your vitamin D levels are sufficient in summer if you actually spend most of the day indoors. If you want to keep close track of your health, we recommend having your vitamin D level tested and, if deficient, starting appropriate supplementation even during the summer months.

4. Women, especially after menopause
The relationship between adequate vitamin D intake and healthy bones is indisputable. This relationship becomes even more important after menopause, when women may experience faster loss of bone density.

5. People on a weight-loss diet or using GLP-1 products
A weight-loss diet carries the risk of reduced intake of a range of vitamins and minerals. This makes it even more important to pay attention to your intake of these nutrients, including vitamin D, while dieting.

Composition and dosage

Composition

Safflower oil, softgel capsule (gelatin, glycerol, purified water), vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol).

Dosage

Take 1 capsule daily. Never take it on an empty stomach; take it with a meal containing fat, which further supports vitamin D absorption. There are several ways to incorporate Vitamin D3 2000 IU into your daily routine.

  • In the morning with breakfast. It fits naturally into your routine, and you can tick it off first thing in the morning.
  • With your main meal of the day. If your breakfasts tend to be carbohydrate-based with almost no fat, it may make more sense to take your vitamin D with a lunch that is higher in fat to support its optimal absorption.
  • At the end of the day with dinner. We have come across claims several times that vitamin D should not be taken in the evening because it supposedly signals to our body that it is daytime and the sun is shining, which may impair sleep. There is a theoretical hypothesis that vitamin D could slightly affect melatonin production (vitamin D receptors are also found in the brain centre that controls circadian rhythms). However, clinical evidence of a real impact on sleep is lacking and, according to the available literature, you can take vitamin D without concern at any time of day.
  • All year round, especially from autumn to spring. During periods of low sunlight, vitamin D supplementation makes the most sense. However, supplementation should always be based on your current blood vitamin D level.
  • Do not exceed the recommended daily dose, but... This magic phrase is required by applicable legislation. However, we have emphasised several times in this description that there is simply no such thing as one optimal vitamin D dose for everyone. Therefore, consider the dose of 1 capsule per day (50 µg, 2000 IU) as a basic safe recommendation that will very likely suit you. If you want to tailor your vitamin D supplementation precisely according to your blood levels, we recommend consulting a doctor or nutrition therapist about the dosage.

Customer Experiences:

Reviews are overwhelmingly positive for a Vitamin D3 supplement. Many customers report more energy and improved mood within days to weeks, plus stronger immunity, especially in autumn and winter. Capsules/tablets are repeatedly praised as very small and easy to swallow, with good daily usability. Some mention a large bottle with fewer pills than expected, and a small share report no effect based on blood tests.
