What is clean beauty, and how does it differ?

GymBeam cosmetics are based on the principles of clean beauty — a modern approach that avoids controversial synthetic substances (parabens, SLS/SLES sulphates, silicones, phthalates, aluminium salts, synthetic fragrances) and replaces them with safer natural alternatives or proven synthetic ingredients. Unlike purely natural cosmetics, it acknowledges modern scientific knowledge, takes the most well-researched ingredients, and combines them with functional efficacy. The EU bans over 1,300 cosmetic substances, but clean beauty goes even further, avoiding a range of permitted but consumer-rejected raw materials. Many people today actively seek products with a minimum of ingredients (Mintel research). 

Which cosmetic products to choose?

• Natural deodorants (solid and roll-on) — a modern alternative to regular antiperspirants. Our formulas rely on, for example, magnesium (magnesium hydroxide), zinc (Zinc PCA), and antimicrobial sage extracts. The flagship is the innovative formulas enriched with probiotics (lactobacilli), which maintain the natural balance of the skin and can handle even higher workloads. • Sulphate-free shampoos (200 ml) — complex hair care that uses the gentlest natural cleansing ingredients on the market instead of aggressive components. As a result, the shampoos do not unnecessarily dry out the scalp, and thanks to added caffeine, bamboo extracts, and plant ferments (lactobacillus), they act as a great support for strengthening the structure and natural growth of hair. Available variants include Magnolia (bamboo extract) and Verbena with caffeine.
• 2-in-1 shower gels (200 ml) — for minimalists and athletes, we offer practical 2-in-1 shower gels with grapeseed oil and spirulina (Salt and Sage edition), which, thanks to their optimal pH, perfectly wash the body and hair, saving space in your gym bag. Classic Green Tonic shower gels have a gentle cleansing base enriched with panthenol (regeneration), argan oil (hydration), and plant extracts for soothing.
• Solid soaps (100 g) — honest vegan soaps without palm oil with a high proportion of caring oils (shea butter, coconut oil, marigold/calendula). Specialised variants are available: Lemongrass & Tea Tree with activated charcoal (fantastic for cleansing the skin after a demanding workout or for skin prone to oiliness and acne) or hypoallergenic Calendula (only 6 ingredients, fragrance-free).

Frequently asked questions

What is a "short INCI" and why does it matter?
INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) is the mandatory list of ingredients on the packaging. A short INCI means fewer ingredients — typically 5–20 instead of the usual 30–50. The risk of allergic reaction, irritation, or interaction is thus lower. GymBeam Calendula soap has only 6 ingredients.

Can natural cosmetics be used every day?
Yes. All products are designed for daily use — the formulation is gentle enough not to burden the skin or hair. For athletes who shower even twice a day, we recommend a sulphate-free shower gel and silicone-free shampoo — minimum burden during repeated washing.

Solid soap vs. shower gel — which is better?
Solid soap has a shorter INCI, less plastic waste, lasts 2–3x longer than shower gel, and doesn't need preservatives. Shower gel is more convenient, more hygienic in shared spaces, and usually contains hydrating ingredients (panthenol, argan oil). The choice is about preferences, not quality.

Why an aluminium-free deodorant?
Aluminium salts (Aluminium Chlorohydrate) in regular antiperspirants clog sweat glands to stop sweating. Clean beauty deodorants instead use Zinc PCA and magnesium hydroxide, which neutralise odour-causing bacteria and let the skin breathe naturally. 

Why a baking soda-free deodorant?
Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃) is a natural and effective odour neutraliser, but it changes the skin's pH (from a natural 5.5 to an alkaline 8–9) and causes irritation, redness, or eczema in some users. Our formulas use magnesium hydroxide and Zinc PCA, which work similarly effectively but respect the skin's natural pH.

Are silicones in shampoo harmful?
Silicones are not toxic, but they coat the hair in an impermeable film. The hair thus looks smooth, but gradually dries out and weakens because nutrients from subsequent care cannot penetrate it. Our silicone-free shampoos care for the hair from the inside, not with a cosmetic effect.

What is "Lactobacillus ferment" and why do you use it?
It is a probiotic extract from lactic fermentation that supports the natural microbial balance of the skin and hair (the so-called microbiome). Probiotic cosmetics are one of the fast-growing clean beauty trends, and our shampoos and deodorants use them for long-term skin protection.

Tip for maximum results:
