DigeZyme® is a complex of 5 digestive enzymes, which help break down food into nutrients that the body can then absorb more easily. It contains enzymes like amylase, protease, lactase, lipase and cellulase, which are necessary for digesting proteins, carbohydrates and fat.  

Amylase is an enzyme produced mainly in the pancreas and salivary glands. It takes care of cleaving complex carbohydrates (starch) into simpler sugars, which can then be used as a source of energy. Nest there is protease, which breaks down proteins into polypeptides and individual amino acids, to be then used by the body to repair strained muscles. The digestion of fats is then aided by lipase, which breaks them down into more usable fatty acids.  

However, the DigeZyme® complex also features lactase that helps break down lactose (milk sugar) into glucose and galactose. Digesting lactose can pose a problem, for example, for people with impaired tolerability to this milk component. Last but not least, there is cellulase, which is not naturally found in the human body. Its function lies in breaking down the otherwise indigestible complex carbohydrate cellulose into simple sugars. This can be especially beneficial for people who consume a predominantly plant-based diet.
