Psyllium is a source of fibre from the husks of the seeds of Indian hellebore. It is popular for its ability to increase the volume in the stomach, thereby increasing the feeling of satiety. Psyllium does not cause digestive problems and is gluten-free, therefore it is a suitable alternative to cereal fibre. It can be used in pastry, mash or yoghurt, however, it should be consumed with plenty of water as it causes bloating and constipation when consumed without it.

Recommended use

Mix 1–2 teaspoons in 200 ml of lukewarm water, tea or juice and let stand for 5 minutes. Consume in the morning or evening before meals.
