{"id":228597,"date":"2021-03-11T17:52:58","date_gmt":"2021-03-11T16:52:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gymbeam.com\/blog\/?p=228597"},"modified":"2022-12-02T15:19:01","modified_gmt":"2022-12-02T14:19:01","slug":"flex-wheeler-a-bodybuilding-legend-who-didnt-break-down-after-a-kidney-disease-or-leg-amputation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gymbeam.com\/blog\/flex-wheeler-a-bodybuilding-legend-who-didnt-break-down-after-a-kidney-disease-or-leg-amputation\/","title":{"rendered":"Flex Wheeler &#8211; a Bodybuilding Legend Who Didn&#8217;t Break Down After a Kidney Disease or Leg Amputation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"sk\" data-phrase-index=\"5\">In the world of bodybuilding, only few people don&#8217;t know this legendary name &#8211; <strong>Flex Wheeler.<\/strong><\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"sk\" data-phrase-index=\"6\">The king of many competitions who was destroying all his competitors in the 90s.<\/span> <strong>He has&nbsp;won the&nbsp;Arnold Classic four&nbsp;times<span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"sk\" data-phrase-index=\"7\">, and even Schwarzenegger himself said that he considers him one of the greatest bodybuilders the world has ever seen.<\/span><\/strong> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"sk\" data-phrase-index=\"8\">However, a member of the IFBB Hall of Fame also has dozens of other titles from championships and competitions, such as Ironman and Grand Prix.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Complicated path of a bullied boy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"sk\" data-phrase-index=\"0\">Despite the success, the path to the top was really complicated for Flex Wheeler. He grew up at a time when poverty was everywhere in the United States. His family wasn&#8217;t an exception. They even bullied him. During his school days, he was diagnosed with dyslexia, because of which he had to <strong>face the ridicule of his classmates and he even thought of suicide.<\/strong> The turning point came when life circumstances led him to martial arts. From there he was just a step away from bodybuilding, which literally captivated him.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"sk\" data-phrase-index=\"0\">However, even the success did not end his suffering in life, and Flex still had to overcome many difficult obstacles. <strong>During his greatest glory, he just about survived a car accident, after which, according to doctors, he was to remain paralysed for life.<\/strong> However, months of convalescence put him back on the podium, crushing his opponents once again.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"sk\" data-phrase-index=\"0\">&#8220;<\/span><\/span>Everybody goes through problems in life. Everybody\u2019s had their challenges. My challenges are no different than anyone else,\u201d Wheeler said. I\u2019m definitely not Superman. That goes to Shaq (O&#8217;Neal). After being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, he fell into severe depression. He began to lose muscle mass, the sponsors turned his back on him and that wasn&#8217;t all.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"sk\" data-phrase-index=\"0\">Today, Flex Wheeler is in his fifties and <strong>continues to fight with his illness.<\/strong> In 2019, <strong>he underwent urgent surgery, which led to a partial amputation of his leg.<\/strong> He also documents the course of his treatment on <a aria-label=\"Instagrame (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/officialflexwheeler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">Instagram<\/a>, where he shared, among other things, a video of him <strong>doing leg press with a partial leg prosthesis<\/strong> and slowly returning to bodybuilding. At the same time, he is the face of <a aria-label=\"vlastnej zna\u010dky luxusnej fitness obuvi (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/flexwheeler.luxuryitalian.shoes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">his own brand of luxury workout shoes<\/a>.
