U prirodi postoji oko <strong>700 razli\u010ditih karotenoida<\/strong>. Oko <strong>10%<\/strong> ih se nalazi u<strong> ljudskoj prehrani<\/strong>, dok je <strong>oko 20 karotenoida<\/strong> prona\u0111eno u<strong> plazmi i tkivima sisavaca.<\/strong> <strong>Glavni<\/strong> karotenoidi u plazmi uklju\u010duju<strong> beta-karoten, lutein, likopen<\/strong> i <strong>alfa-karoten<\/strong>. Naziv beta-karoten dolazi od<strong> gr\u010dke rije\u010di &#8220;beta&#8221; i latinske &#8220;carota&#8221;<\/strong> (mrkva).<strong> H. Wachenroder<\/strong> je ustanovio ovu indikaciju, prvo ga je <strong>izolirao od mrkve 1831. godine.<\/strong> Beta-karoten je izoliran ve\u0107 u 19. stolje\u0107u, ali njegova <strong>kemijska formula &#8211; C<sub>40<\/sub>H<sub>56<\/sub><\/strong>&nbsp;je otkrivena ne\u0161to kasnije <strong>1907. godine<\/strong>. Mo\u017eete uzeti <strong>unaprijed pripremljeni vitamin A<\/strong> iz <strong>oboga\u0107ene hrane, proizvoda \u017eivotinjskog podrijetla<\/strong> ili <strong>dodataka prehrani.<\/strong> <strong>Karotenoidi<\/strong> su prirodni <strong>dio biljaka<\/strong>, ali ih mo\u017eete prona\u0107i i u obliku <strong>dodataka prehrani<\/strong>. <strong>Beta-karoten,<\/strong> za razliku od vitamina A, <strong>nije esencijalni hranjivi sastojak<\/strong>. Kada govorimo o vitaminu A, treba pripaziti na njegov unos, jer <strong>prekomjerna koli\u010dina<\/strong> mo\u017ee biti <strong>toksi\u010dna<\/strong> za tijelo. Antioksidansi se smatraju hranjivim tvarima koje imaju sposobnost <strong>smanjiti oksidaciju molekula<\/strong>, u <strong>tu skupinu spadaju karotenoidi,<\/strong> uklju\u010duju\u0107i beta-karoten. Ne samo beta-karoten sam, nego i <strong>mje\u0161avine karotenoida<\/strong> ili <strong>kombinacija s drugim antioksidansima,<\/strong> poput vitamina E, mogu <strong>pove\u0107ati njihov u\u010dinak protiv slobodnih radikala.<\/strong> \u010cak 3 od 4 intervencijska istra\u017eivanja <strong>nisu dokazala za\u0161titnu funkciju<\/strong> beta-karotena, u obliku dodataka prehrani,<strong> protiv kardiovaskularnih bolesti ili raka<\/strong>. U sjede\u0107em poglavlju \u0107emo se pojedina\u010dno baviti s ove dvije bolesti i njihovom povezano\u0161\u0107u s beta-karotenom. U svakom slu\u010daju, mo\u017ee se tvrditi da <strong>karotenoidi iz prehrane<\/strong> imaju <strong>pozitivan u\u010dinak,<\/strong> ali ne u <strong>velikim dozama<\/strong> kod osoba izlo\u017eenih <strong>azbestu i pu\u0161a\u010dima.&nbsp;<\/strong><span class=\"tadv-color\" style=\"color: #ff6600\">[16]<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Beta-karoten i vid&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ve\u0107 smo spomenuli legendu povezanu s mrkvom i dobrim vidom.<strong> U\u010dinci beta-karotena<\/strong> na <strong>zdravlje o\u010diju<\/strong> bili su predmet <strong>nekoliko istra\u017eivanja.<\/strong> Istra\u017eivanje iz 2016. godine je zaklju\u010dilo da<strong> pove\u0107ani unos karotenoida smanjuje rizik od senilne makularne degeneracije (AMD).<\/strong> Osim toga, rezultati istra\u017eivanja iz 2017. godine ukazuju na \u010dinjenicu da <strong>ve\u0107i unos vo\u0107a i <a href=\"https:\/\/gymbeam.hr\/blog\/tag\/povrce-hr\/\" class=\"ek-link\">povr\u0107a<\/a><\/strong> ne sadr\u017ei samo<strong> beta-karoten,<\/strong> nego i <strong>alfa-karoten i vitamin C,<\/strong> te da mo\u017ee imati <strong>pozitivan u\u010dinak protiv AMD-a kod pu\u0161a\u010da.<\/strong> AMD je kratica za bolest oka, koja uzrokuje <strong>zamagljen vid,<\/strong> na primjer prilikom \u010ditanja. Glavni je uzrok <strong>gubitka vida kod osoba starijih od 50 godina<\/strong>.
